Passover’s coming, and I’ve got freedom on my mind. Take a look at this–the Justice Mapping Center is among the most transfixing and sobering visual projects I’ve seen. In their words, they create “mapping studies of criminal justice population concentrations, including adults and juveniles going in and out of prison and jail…” Just glance at a color-coded map, and one can see the neighborhoods where inmates come from. No one would expect the criminal distribution to be even, but seeing the statistics change so dramatically, even within zip codes, is startling. The Justice Mapping Center was featured in the issue of Time Magazine dated today.

Speaking of Passover, it’s a likely time for the US to attack Iran, if the ruminations of this Russian newspaper carry any weight: “According to the Russian weekly magazine Argoumenty nedeli, a military action will proceed during the first week of April…” Since that article was written, the situation has continued to heat up. Iran captured 15 members of the British Navy last Friday; the US, Britain, and Iraq claim the personnel were within Iraqi territory, but Iran says they were trespassing in Iranian waters. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m preparing some flour and water to bake on my back if I need to run out of here on short notice.
