hummus2.jpgHummus is a hit anytime and anyplace! The best thing about hummus is that it is actually good for you. Hummus contains large amounts of the nutrients such as iron, vitamin C, not to mention also a fabulous source of protein and fiber.

I have a recipe for hummus that is out of this world, it’s a bit different than the typical hummus you will find in the stores. The recipe is also raw, but if you want to use regular tahini, go for it!

Chunky Pecan Hummus


2 cups soaked pecans
½ cup raw tahini
1 large garlic clove, minced
2 large lemons (juice of )
*½ teaspoon sea salt(to taste)
1 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon basil
Water (optional)


Grind down the pecans in a food processor to a paste. Next add all other ingredients and process. Stop occasionally to scrape down the sides of the processor with a rubber spatula. Add a little water if necessary. Processes until you have the consistency you desire, a little chunky or smooth. Enjoy!

* Kosher salt will also do

If you want to garnish the hummus, here are a few ideas: sprinkle on top either paprika, cumin, garlic, pecans or with whole chickpeas then drizzle with olive oil
