Remember this debacle? Everyone had something to say about it (including many disturbing comments on Digg, so folks who wanna join Mobius in changing Digg up, hit him up), and Smith quickly responded with a statement:

“It is an awful and disgusting lie,” Smith said in a statement released Monday, regarding the suggestion that he believes Hitler was a good person. “It speaks to the dangerous power of an ignorant person with a pen. I am incensed and infuriated to have to respond to such ludicrous misinterpretation.”

“Adolf Hitler was a vile, heinous vicious killer responsible for one of the greatest acts of evil committed on this planet,” Smith’s statement continued.

Well, Smith had his day in court, and got his apology:

WILL SMITH has received a formal apology, as well as a cash settlement, over a story that claimed the actor said ADOLF HITLER was a good person.

The Associated Press reports that his lawyer said, “The defendant published an article about the claimant entitled Smith: Hitler was a Good Person. The article alleged that the claimant had declared in an interview that Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler was a good person. It wholly misrepresents the claimant’s actual worlds…”

In addition to a formal apology, celebrity news and photo service WENN agreed to pay unspecified damages, which Smith will donate to charities of his choice.

Now who doesn’t want to be that charity of choice?
