Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Beliefnet.com, Steve Waldman, did an interesting interview today on Fresh Air with Terry Gross, breaking down the culture war on the origin of faith, religious freedom and the founding of the U.S. Waldman “debunks myths about religion in the lives the Founding Fathers, and in the early history of America in his new book, Founding Faith.”
Definitely an interesting breakdown, including tackling questions about whether the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and more.
One of my favorite moments was when Terry and Steve both throw down that talking about the U.S. as a Judeo-Christian country in it’s origin, or otherwise, is completely inaccurate. Let alone putting together Judeo with Christian. Talk about a personal pet peeve. There’s nothing that will get me going more than when people try to talk about anything being “Judeo-Christian.”
Check out an excerpt of his book on NPR’s site as well.
