Surprise! In the quest for a home for the George Dubya Presidential Library, the most likely candidate is reluctant to accept. Southern Methodist University, Laura Bush’s alma mater, is dealing with heavy opposition to building the library on campus from their own ministers.
“Methodists have a long history of social conscience, so questions about the conduct of this president are very concerning,” said one of the petition’s organizers, the Rev. Andrew J. Weaver of New York, who graduated from SMU’s Perkins School of Theology.
How does one duck such a dubious honor? Get the word out to your Methodist friends & family to sign the petition to prevent the library from landing at SMU. Of course eventually it will have to land somewhere, but the statement this makes, especially coming from his own faith community, is necessary and powerful.

Is Dubya actually a Methodist? There are more than a few universities in Texas, and any of them would be as logical as SMU-Baylor, Rice, UT.
I only wish the faculty at my school (Emory–also Methodist) had done this when Carter came shopping for his Center.
