Dear Marisa -
Your reflection on "Hineni" moved me. The whole conversation of it's meaning and interpretation is ongoing and you've certainly added yet another facet to
the prism. (Alvin has often commented on this through the years during High Holiday services.)
As a parent, my response to "Hineni" has always been linked to the needs of my family. If a child calls out for help, before a parent even knows their need, the response of the parent is "Here I am." If a child gets lost, literally or figuratively, the parent calls out, "Here I am." These first few words do not provide an immediate solution to the child's problem, but they immediately assure the child that they are not alone, but rather, they can feel comfort in knowing that their loving, protective parent is right there to help or guide them as needed.
Even after the passing of my own parents, as an adult I find myself looking to them for help, for advice, for counsel - What would Mom or Dad say or do? I always valued their intellect and extraordinary kindness. I sometimes find comfort thinking that they are somehow nearby, whispering to me, "Hineni!"
Their marvelous genes have surely been handed down.
With love, Mom

This is a very busy piece. You have a lot of ideas and pieces, but they really do all tie together and become one, which makes it such an admirable dvar. I'm still trying to decide if it needs more words or less. All in all, yasher koach.
